We are so sorry we have not blogged in forever!!! We are back in school and are in full speed!! It's okay, because we are blogging now! :) Even though it was rainy and yucky outside I have to say that my day was pretty eventful. I am taking this class that requires us to do a practicum in an elementary school for so many hours....blah blah blah blah...you get the point. So, today was the big day, first day at this new school in this new classroom full of exciting children who would be ready to learn..........YEAH RIGHT!! That was wishful thinking.
My teacher had told us to dress professional and all that good stuff. So, this morning I wake up to notice that it was STILL raining, and my rain boots were back at home, where my parents live, and I really needed them to get through all of the puddles. I decided to go with something simple. I slipped on a dress and some dress shoes and grabbed my stuff and was out the door. I wore my hair curly because it would have been the biggest waste of my time if I had straightened my hair today. I have to admit I was looking good :) haha! My first class went by fine, minus walking in the rain, and it was on to the practicum at the elementary school. The group that I am teaching in found out when we got to the school that we would have 3 exceptional children in our classroom. There would be 2 autistic children and one that has behavioral issues. I didn't think anything about it and just kept going on with checking in and getting my name tag and so on. We got a tour of the school and then it was time for us to go and meet our teacher and the students we would be working with until Christmas.
We walked in and were looking around, seeing what kind of decorations were on the wall, observing the students. Of course the students were checking us out trying to figure out who we were and what we were doing in their classroom. The students were in centers and I just picked a center and sat down.....little did I know my life was about to get crazy!!! I was sitting there filling out a sheet that was due in my class and I felt a child's hand in my hair, twisting my hair with their fingers. Of course I turned around to see who was playing in my hair and it was a little boy just grinning at me. He came and sat beside me and would lay his head on my arm and would be so sweet. As soon as I made eye contact with him he asked me my name, so I told him, later I asked him what his name was. He told me his name and he stuck his hand out and said nice to meet you. How cute right?? Little did I know that that little boy would be at my side until I left that classroom. We clicked right when we met each other. He kept me entertained and on my toes the whole class. At one center the students were instructed to cut out the letters and glue the letters on a paper that made words. The boy decided he needed my assistance and came over and askd me to come help him. We sat down and worked on his work and we had such a great time. He finished quickly and then I told him to flip his work over and draw a picture and for him to wait until the others got finished working. Of course he had to tell me the story of his drawing!!! All through out the time I was there I was working with him and he would be working on his work and I would try and slip away but 2 seconds later I would hear my name and knew I was to get back to him immediately. We would switch centers and I knew I better go with him or he was going to come and find me.
This boy was one of the severe autistic children but he was so amazing. He was so smart and would listen to me. He may not agree or want to do what I asked him to do but we worked it out and got things done. Working with that child opened my eyes because he instantly clicked with me and I don't know what it was but it clicked. He learned how I did things while I was learning how he did things. He kept me laughing the whole class and was always up to something. Finally, it was time for me to leave and the students were lined up going to lunch. I was saying bye to the class and the little boy that was by my side the whole time didn't understand why I had to leave. I had to explain to him that I had to go back to my school, but I would be back next week. Well, he said okay, and that he just knew I was going to come back. He thanked me for helping him and gave me a hug. I told him bye and I would see him next week and turned around. Seconds later I hear my name being called and turned around to find that it was the same boy grinning at me while calling my name. I said yes? He said next time if it is raining don't forget your rain boots!!! I had to hold everything that wanted to laugh in because he was so serious. Here I had wanted my rain boots this morning but decided to be stylish and weary matching shoes and I didn't have them here and that little boy told me not to forget them the next time it rained! That was so cute and funny!! What an eventful day right??? & that was only at noon!!!!
Hope you enjoy :)

PURPLE.....GOLD
When I graduated from ECU I was sure that I wasn't going to miss college life! I was ready for a change...however since I have been a graduate for over a year I have never felt more like a Pirate! Everyone always said...not always a student, but always a Pirate.
Today ECU is playing Memphis and my family is at the game, but I decided to be studious and stay home! However, as I am studying my mind keeps drifting off to the smell of popcorn and peanuts....Purple Reign playing in the background and the announcer guy saying "TOUCHDOWN PIRATES" I miss watching the band at halftime and looking around Dowdy-Ficklen stadium and seeing a sea of purple and gold!! I miss seeing friends and laughing at the drunk people trying to climb the stairs...there was always "that person".
I have two ECU football stories that are my favorite. One is when I was able to get a football signed by all the team players for my daddy. The day I got it ECU played NCSU and had lost....but I was so excited to give my daddy that football that I didn't care!
The other one was when ECU beat WV and we rushed the field. Me being the rule follower and KLW being the rule breaker made for an interesting time. KLW was first to get to the wall to jump and she jumped right off...well when I got to the wall and saw how far I had to jump I was like "I'll just meet y'all at the car".....but after two big strangers lowered me down by my arms I finally could reach the ledge and jump the rest of the way! Then KLW and I went running onto the field....well after she tripped and fell in the bushes and I had to jerk her threw so she wouldn't be arrested! (the things I do for that girl) We were jumping and screaming and sweating it was the best experience EVER! My mom said when they were watching the student section flood the field she looked over at my dad and said "I wonder where your two are?" and my daddy replied "I hope their on the field".
I'll leave y'all with a video that always gets us excited about gameday.....
GO PIRATES!!

L.Y.L.A.S.
Sorry for not blogging to much recently...but I am sure with everyone back in school that y'all can understand that our lives have gotten alot busier than what they were when we were still in the country!! However, I had a visitor yesterday and it provided me with some "bloggin' material".
My role model, the person who slapped me when we were younger, the person who was President of the J, M, & K club, the person commonly referred to as "Ha-ca" (pronounced Ha ca), the person who lead us to believe there was "beaver" people in the woods beside our grandma's house, the person who left me on the bus, the person who I wanted to be, my cousin, Jessica came to visit!!! Since she missed my birthday she promised to come to THE Boro and take my to dinner!
We had a great time! I was so happy to see because I haven't seen her since Mother's Day...she doesn't visit us much in the country...just ask my Granddaddy Thomas he'll let you know about what he thinks about how often Jessica visits! So we were conversing over dinner and Jessica admitted that she had not read our blog....well I immediately informed her of what we did to Will.i.am when we found out he hadn't read our blog. This was her response......"Please don't put that story about when I slapped you on your blog, I'm busy so how about you just catch me up." Oh I'll catch her up all right! Well since Jessica asked nicely for me not to put the story about her slapping me when we were younger I'll tell y'all another story......my mom's favorite!
So I am younger than Jessica..by four years! So when I was in kindergarten I had to sit with Jessica on the bus so she would watch out for me. Jessica sat in the back of bus...which is where all the cool older kids sit so Jessica was more worried about catching up on the latest 5th grade gossip than talking to me. However, this particular afternoon I must have been really bothering her (which was unusual) because here is our convo..
ME: *Poke*
JESSICA: MEREDITH, there is a brick wall between us so you cannot talk to me!! (*Whips back around to her "cool" 5th grade friends*)
ME: *Stands up and acts like I'm talking over the imaginary wall* Jessica
JESSICA: I JUST PUT A ROOF ON THE WALL STOP TALKING TO ME
Such a sweet cousin! So then today when I got into my car I realized Jessica had left her cute sunglasses in my car! I was like SWEET!! And since Jessica doesn't read our blog she will not know where her sunglasses are so that means I can wear them and pretend like I got some super cute new shades!!
Coming home TOMORROW!

Welcome to the Hollerin' Capitol
KLW and I are home for the first weekend since we have moved back to college.....and it's been anything but boring! However, it is wasn't obvious enough that we were back home today at 12:00pm dove season started....and when we were getting ready for our pool party we looked across the backyard and our neighbors were sitting in their backyard with a shotgun!! Kathryn and I don't see to many people sitting in their yard with shotguns in the Big cities we live in....and if we do see that we usually cry, run, and then pass out from fear!!
Today KLW and I threw a back to school pool party for our 4th and 5th grade Sunday school class. It was so much fun, however what these kids have to say about life is HILARIOUS! We had hotdogs and chips at the party and here is a little conversation.
TOPIC: How much do you weigh?
DESCRIPTION: The kids were comparing who weighed the most. KLW and I gladly stayed quiet on this topic.
KB: How much do you weigh ZW?
ZW: I WEIGH ENOUGH TO SIT IN THE FRONT SEAT....90lbs!!!
It was soo cute how ZW was so proud that he weighed enough to sit in the front seat! KLW and I are in for an exciting year with this bunch! Pray for us!!

It's my PARTY and I'll SLEEP if I want to!!
I know everyone is excited about my BIRTHDAY tomorrow (except for my dad who is more concerned about what purple or yellow shirt he is going to wear to ECU's first home football game). Tomorrow around 10:50am twenty three years ago I was born! *TEAR* However, the questions you get asked on your birthday is "how old are you?" and "what do you want for your birthday?".....Well since y'all asked....I will e 23 years old and I would like for you to donate either by praying or giving money to an organization I have grown to LOVE.
Sweet Sleep is a faith-based nonprofit organization which exists to share God’s love by providing beds to the world’s orphaned and abandoned children. According to UNICEF, there are more that 210 million orphans worldwide. Today, 5,760 more children will become orphans.Orphaned and abandoned children around the world suffer from lack of sufficient or healthy places to sleep. These children often sleep on old, broken and soiled beds or have no beds at all – forcing them to sleep on paper-thin mats or cold, hard floors, making them susceptible to crawling, biting insects and disease. In these conditions, it is nearly impossible to get a good night’s sleep and the effects are staggering:
■1 in 5 of all childhood deaths is caused from malaria. 90% of these children are in Africa alone.
■A sagging or misshapen mattress may add tension to a child’s joints because their bodies rest on the mattress for hours at a time. Even if a child sleeps well on a bad mattress, these injuries to their bodies only make them weaker.
■Old mattresses or scraps of foam are breeding grounds for bed bugs and allergens that contribute to startling increases in respiratory diseases, including asthma as well as rhinitis, eczema and bed bug bites.
■When children continuously do not get enough sleep it affects their health, makes them tired during the day, hinders their ability to do well at school and leaves them more prone to disease.
Thanks EVERYONE,
Sissy Ducks (MAW)
